Marek Doruch

Marek Doruch was born on 24 January 1963. He has loved horses since childhood. As a boy, he spent his holidays in the countryside with horses. As a high school student, he trained at the Jaroszówka stud and even won the title of Polish dressage champion. He worked as a horse-riding instructor. He also created a harness horse stable and stabled horses for harnessing.
In 1991, he founded a carriage-building and renovation company, Marek Doruch, which specialised in renovating horse-drawn carriages according to their historical model. Many of the carriages restored by him have taken part in traditional carriage driving competitions in Europe. Marek Doruch’s company has restored carriages for private clients and for museum collections in Poland and Europe.
Marek was the first Polish participant in international competitions of traditional carriage driving in Europe. He took part in dozens of such competitions. He pioneered the idea of these competitions in Poland and was very involved in the events in Książ and Koszęcin.
He earned the qualifications of an international AIAT judge. He was a judge of these competitions. He acted as a technical delegate of the tradition competitions many times. Everything Marek undertook, he did with professionalism and passion. Always offering advice, he is pleasant, cheerful and smiling. He was also an active member of the Polish Carriage Society.
He was highly respected in the AIAT International Organisation. He was one of the first to understand and appreciate the idea of traditional carriage driving in his country and took part in many such events in Poland and abroad. He passed away on 26.08.2022.
